Again, been a long time................................man I've got to check in more often. my apologies.
Latest news. I just spent two weeks in the studio with my friends Drew Ramsey and Shannon Sanders
(http://www.drewandshannon.com) who are producing the Jonny Lang project. Buddy Miller and Sam Bush appear on the song "The River" (check out my upright bass performance) and it's very cool. Buddy is singing and playing electric baritone guitar, and Sam is playing mandoling, and also slide mandolin on a national resonator mandolin. And Jonny is playing guitar (my 1956 Gibson LG2) and singing. Michael McDonald also makes a guest appearance, singing and playing piano. The songs are fantastic-soulful, rockin', and Jonny's guitar playing is burnin.
Played a couple of shows with Sandra McCracken since last blog. She's great.Played on the latest Brian Moss project.Played with my band the Southern Soulmasters at Paul and Talitha Moak's wedding reception. Played a New Years eve thing with John Davis (Superdrag). His new record is very cool. Spent winter and Spring writing, recording for new cd entitled "unfaded" which we now have almost done. Mixed by Russ Long, and mastered by the incredible Hank Williams at Master Mix in Nashville TN. Looked at possibly opening for the Chicago Blues Reunion Tour this summer, but too many conflicts.
btw also working on J Lang project is engineer Matt Hyde. Matt also produces, lives in Los Angeles. I anticipate getting to work with him some in the future. He's really gifted, and I learned a lot working with him.
happy independence day

It's been a long time since I've checked in. Grateful to have worked on many new projects for many folks. Some indy folks of note, threefold, of Everett WA @ threefoldonline.com, produced by Mitch Dane. Buddy Greene's new Hymns & Prayer Songs, buddygreene.com, Bebo Norman's new record, Try. Sandra McCracken has new music out in UK, and might be available at her sandramccracken.com site. Randall Goodgame.com is working on a doosey of a new record, as is Derek Webb.com. Randall and Ben Shive are coproducing this new project. Great songs, great players whom I was honored to be playing with, on almost every song i think. Garret Buel-drums, B. Shive-pianos, Will Sayles-drums, Mark Polack-bass,
Derek Webb's new project is a party of musical ecstacy and profound poetry. Again I'm humbled to appear with such gifted musicians, Will Sayles, Paul Moak, Cason Cooley, Matt Pierson. these sessions left my head spinning from such cool musical exploits-this guy is fearless. No boundaries. he is self/band producing, and there is no leashes in sight. He really does have a knack for employing just the right people, and then turning them loose, letting them "shout their own battle cry" while he leads the charge. This is a much different cd than the last one I worked on for Derek, but definitely the same artist, passionate, grateful, repentent. No "flavor of the month" musical trendiness going on here.
Also have a new site to visit to explore new artists, and keep up with favorites, @ebflo.com. I think they will be posting a new FREE download of my live performance from back in march at Christ Community Church (Paul Burns engineer)featuring Buddy Greene on harmonica, Phil Madeira on piano, Kelly Willard vocals, Andy Hubbard drums, and last but certainly not least Danny O'Lanerghty (sp?)on bass.
Hung out with Mike O'Neil and Marty Stuart and his lovely wife (hi connie)and youngest daughter, at his fanfare kickoff Marty Party at the Ryman Auditorium. Thanks O'Neil.
...........I've probabley left someone out since it's been so long since my last blog.....sorry if i did.
My wife Susie ( hello sweet lady) continues to be steadfastly amazing. I am so lov-ed (pronounce with two sylables, ala Mike myers in "So I Married an Axe Murderer").Our youngest daughter Abby (hey sparky!!!!) started her senior year of high school. Go Rebels! She also is a very sweet lady, and is an amazing young lady, and I learn something from her every (if I'm paying attention)day.
Ray Charles 1930-2004. What can I say. Brother Ray was(is) to Music what Jesus is to religion. Complete, as in It Is Finished. Ray was so..................words cannot explain. tears on my keyboard. pain in my heart. This is a front row show that I'm sure the Trinity has been eagerly anticipating for quite a long time(73 years).peace

Tuesday night Jan 13, 04. Had a great night at the Radio Cafe in East Nashville. Southern Soulmasters played two sets with Emily DeLoche performing between sets. Paul Moke on guitar, Chris Wiegel on bass, Cason Cooley on keys, and Will Sayles on drums. Lots of folks came out to the show, and we had a great time playing for them. If you live in the Nashville area and would like to be on our email list for local shows, email kenny@kennymeeks.com.
